I really enjoy third grade in particular because students are very kind yet they are becoming independent learners. I love teaching students something new and how to use that knowledge! It's so exciting to see students make connections and own their learning.
I am fascinated that all students at Irish learn content in English and Spanish. It's so exciting to see a child explain a math strategy in front of the class in his/her second language! I also have the utmost respect for the open, positive, hard working, and encouraging staff. Together with wonderful families we are sparking greatness!
"Every day, millions of students enter school wanting to learn, hoping to be stimulated, engaged, and treated well, and hoping to find meaning in what they do. And every day that we, as educators, stimulate and challenge our students to focus their minds on meaningful tasks, to think about important issues, and to construct new understandings of their worlds, we - and - they achieve a meaningful victory." (Brooks & Brooks, 1999, p. 120)
I would hope visitors find my classroom to be inviting, fun, organized, safe, positive and engaging. I believe in high expectations and rigor in academics and behavior which is reflected in my teaching.
